Ms. Horgas simultaneously learnt to play the flute and the piano already at the age of ten, but in the end flute won over the piano by a “knock out.” After the basic music school during the years of primary school, Horgas continued her studies at the Bartók Béla Conservatory and then at the Liszt Ferenc Music Academy. Her flute and chamber music professors included Lóránt Kovács, Erika Sebők, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados.
Kurtág and Rados established the Source Chamber Music Workshop with their students in 1992. They held concerts for six years and gained popularity both among the professionals as well as the audience. The director of the Weiner Leo Music School contacted Horgas in the year in which the chamber workshop was established. Eszter Horgas first became a teacher at the institute in 1993, and then the Chair of the Department in 1994.
In 2000, Eszter Horgas established the Class Jazz Band. The newly formed band held a grandiose concert at the Great Hall of the Music Academy with György Vukán and his trio, and also with Tony Lakatos and Gábor Winand. Tickets were sold out for this event months before the opening night.
In November 2003, Horgas created a contemporary performance based on Bizet’s Carmen addressing the audience of today, collaborating with Al di Meola, as well as other soloists and 130 performers in the Budapest Arena in front of a full house.
The next revolutionary performance Eszter Horgas created was Eszters’ Book, in collaboration with Eszter Bíró and other musicians. In the summer of the same year, she also produced and performed the super-production of the revised Carmen with great success at the Margitsziget Open-Air Stage, as well as at the Pula Arena in Croatia.
Eszter Horgas’ new CD came out in 2004 with the title “Movie-magic.”
